Health and Wellbeing

Health and wellbeing are on a spectrum.

We pass along this spectrum on a journey. We have good days and bad days. We have ups and downs. From the time we are born, we are on this journey. Often, we can see the path that leads to good health and positive wellbeing. However, we also often stray from that path. We do not exercise as much as we know we should, we eat too much and do not follow a healthy balanced diet. No matter how far we stray from the path, we can always see it.
As we languish by the wayside drinking our fizzy drink and polishing off our hamburger and fries, we can choose to make our way back to the path of good health and wellbeing at any time. We have the power to decide. We can get up off our backsides, get back on the path, and resume our journey whenever we like. It is never too late, and you are never too old.

Laying the foundations.

So, let us talk a bit about laying the foundations for your journey. it is vitality important for you to make an honest assessment of exactly where you are now in terms of your general health and wellbeing. Remember you can only ever start from where you are now.
I like to view health and wellbeing like a pyramid. Like a lot of ancient pyramids, some of the structure has become buried underground. We need to raise ourselves above these conditions to dig our way up into the sunlight.

The base layer is buried and in darkness. It is often where we find ourselves when we are “Sick”. Being sick is no fun and is often a condition we find ourselves in through no fault of our own. Depending on the problem our recovery can be helped through medication and general medical help. Regardless of our circumstances though, there are often things that we can do to improve our health, wellbeing, and speed our recovery. Eating a healthy diet, rest, hydrating, getting plenty of sleep, and a positive mindset. Being just a few.

Moving out of the darkness.

Can we move up from the “sickness” level to the level above? If so, we are no longer sick. However, we may still be unwell. I see a definite distinction between being sick and just being unwell.

As we go through the different stages of our lives, we soon realize that things are seldom black and white but often shades of grey. So, our physical health can fluctuate.
Just changing our mindset and making the commitment to become a healthier happier version of ourselves can enable us to make the breakthrough. We can break the surface, pull ourselves up out of the dark cold ground, and into the sunlight. Do that and we can begin the journey properly. Because now my friends, we are “Well!”

Got yourself Well?  Congratulations.

However, do not get carried away because it’s now that the real work begins. We have broken through and are now, happily we are WELL! Our next goal is to become healthy. Yes, there is a difference between being well and being healthy. Being well is simply the opposite of being unwell, it is not quite the same as being healthy. From healthy, we move to become fit.

To raise ourselves to become healthy, we need to make a commitment
Here in the West, we are obsessed with “Doing.” We set about doing “things” to bring about some change. In the East, the philosophy is somewhat different. In the East, people are more focused on “Being” rather than doing.

Don’t just Do…..BE!
